RECENT WORK

INTERNATIONAL SOS – PHILADELPHIA

I led the interface designs of map-based systems for international Medical and Security Teams to monitor global crises and to provide on-going situation awareness and communication. This helped teams respond with the appropriate telemedicine, secured evacuation and even air ambulance services to protect and save lives, assisting the largest multi-national corporations, NGOs, universities and all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

ABBOTT POINT OF CARE – PRINCETON, NJ

I led the interface designs of small medical devices, most notably the Alinity i-STAT — a second-generation mobile rapid-test blood analyzer to help doctors determine diagnosis and treatments in remote places.

Used in hospitals around the world, and now used by the U.S. Army to detect Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) to improve the healthcare outcomes for our Warfighters.

HOW I MAKE MAGIC HAPPEN

How might we extract all the value emerging from AI and other new technologies?

I believe that the value is not in the technology itself, but rather in the new possibilities of better product experiences customers can have.

When you place a food order on a mobile device, the experience is almost indistinguishable from magic*. Your app order is instantly and invisibly processed — the complexity is completely hidden from view.

That magic took talented people, behind the curtain, with the right skills and coordinated efforts to make it happen.

I lead collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams to create great digital experiences. Using Design Thinking methods, supercharged with AI, we create new enjoyable, well-rehearsed “magic tricks” for customers to enjoy and to keep coming back for more.

Design Thinking focuses teams on understanding and empathizing with what customers are really trying to do. Solutions are then customer tested and verified for usability long before any coding is started. And new, powerful AI services can enhance many research and design tasks for faster and better results.

How are you putting magic into YOUR products?
