Promotional Video of New Technical Platform Features

Problem

The Engineering team had to show the Marketing team what the new blood testing device looked like. No picture had ever been shown to them, except for technical drawings, and this was a point of contention and confusion.

The also wanted to demonstrate how new features would benefit the operator to understand how and in what ways the device was going to better than it’s predecessor.

Marketing needed to understand exactly what they were going to be promoting.

Solution

First I created a storyboard to identify the unique features that added unique value to the user - the easy-to-use color touchscreen, error display improvements, audio cues, etc. I then created 3D models in Rhino 3D and created simple vignette animations to show them in action. Finally, I rendered the animations into a video and edited it until it had the right storyline, cadence and length. It's easy to explain, but it took many revisions to get to the final piece, but it was worth the effort.

The video well received throughout the organization and served as a touchstone -  a way to quickly communicate, understand and discuss the features in terms of "uses" and not just add-on "components".

The whole experience served as a great creative "stretch" for me, it was a great challenge to animate the story of a new product and showcase the new possibilities it had for health workers to treat patients.
